Our Conservation and Research Mission

"From Knowledge to Understanding"

Long term conservation and management of species in captivity, as well as in the wild, is one of the primary missions of the Dallas Zoo and The Dallas Aquarium at Fair Park. We fulfill this mission through our strong commitment to a sustained and comprehensive conservation and research program that supports both basic and applied research in the field and in captivity.

Sharing Our Mission Through Education:
The Dallas Zoo and The Dallas Aquarium at Fair Park manage an extensive conservation education program, particularly for adults, providing opportunities to further their knowledge and understanding through study and research. Annually, the Zoo:

  • Teaches a course on primate behavior and research methods with staff from the University of Dallas.

  • Teaches a course on primate behavior at Southern Methodist University.

  • Offers a "hands-on" course on research methodology to the staff.

  • Sponsors graduate students, allowing them to conduct their research on grounds.

  • Enables adults and students to participate in our research through the research aide program.

  • Enables adults to experience field research through the Wildlife Research Expeditions program.
